Sherie′s infatuation with cakes began over 7 years ago whilst working for a family owned business producing Vanilla Essence and flavorings. This is where sherie caught the cake bug and would bake cakes and sweets using the lovely flavorings and essences before they were devoured for morning tea! It didn't take long before Sherie became the resident cake maker amongst friends and family where the bug became an obsession and The Flour Girl was born. Sherie says she has always thought there was something so very whimsical about cakes, whether it's a delicately decorated morsel of goodness otherwise known as the much loved humble cupcake or that of an elegant and majestic multi-tiered masterpiece. Whatever their form, she appreciates the hours of love poured into every creation and the finer details of the gorgeous hand crafted decorations created by drawing inspiration from your individual style, elements of your special event such as a specially designed and crafted invitation, a stunningly beautiful wedding gown, an inspirational color palette or even something as simple as a child′s favorite character, whatever the style and whatever the event, together with you she will create a delicious memory for you to savour.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY WEDDING CAKE?
We suggest booking in for your Taste & Concept Appointment with The Flour Girl at least 6 months prior to your wedding. This is purely to avoid disappointment should your date be booked out by someone else. We will however do our very best to accommodate you should you not have the advantage of getting in early.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF ORDERING A CAKE?
We recommend that you make an initial enquiry by email or phone, advising us of your date, delivery location, serving size (coffee or dessert) and design ideas so we can provide a rough price guide. We can then book you in for a Taste & Concept Appointment where you come along and taste a variety of cake flavours & frostings and together we will design your cake, sketch it up on the day and provide a firm quote. To confirm your order, a 20% deposit is payable, with the balance being due two weeks prior to your event.
For events other than weddings we often work by phone and email to finalise a design and quote, and of course we are more than happy to work by email if you are planning your wedding from interstate or overseas.
HOW MUCH WILL MY CAKE COST?
The final price will depend on number of servings, whether your cake will be served as dessert or smaller finger portions to be served with Tea & Coffee and the complexity of decorations chosen. Each cake is quoted on an individual basis.
CAN I HAVE A DIFFERENT FLAVOUR IN EACH TIER?
Yes! You can have as many flavours as you have tiers. As we encase every tier in chocolate ganache, you can also choose the flavour of buttercream to fill your layers with as well. For dessert servings, we recommend a maximum of two flavours so the cake can be easily served as alternate drop.
CAN I HAVE FOAM ″DUMMY” TIERS OR A SMALLER CAKE PLUS KITCHEN SLABS TO REDUCE THE PRICE?
For most average sized weddings, it′s just as easy for us to put all your servings into the main cake. Foam is most useful if you love the idea of a really large cake, but only have a modest guest list. As most of the cost is in the decorating, a five tier cake with only three tiers of real cake will still be closer to a five tier cake price than a three tier price.
When considering whether to go for a small cake plus kitchen cake, keep in mind the scale of the wedding and the visual impact you would like from the wedding cake. This option usually reduces costs significantly only for larger events, however a small cake may look out of place at a big wedding.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY APPOINTMENT?
Any materials you have from your wedding plans can assist in arriving at the perfect cake design for you. Invitations, fabric/colour swatches, inspiration boards and images will all assist in visualising the look of your day and designing a cake to suit.
